To clarify this, if you are really interested in finding out what needs to be done to configure a router, I suggest you be comfortable, take some free time and concentrate carefully on reading the next few lines. I bet you will be able to complete the job in less than five minutes. So, do you accept the challenge? Yes? Good. Let’s get back the sleeves and let’s get started right away.

If you want to understand how to router SetUp, you have to do some preliminary tasks. Just start connecting it to the electrical outlet and the telephone line using the appropriate cables. Then, if your router has a pigi-ignition button so that the device is switched on.

At this point, make sure that the device is properly connected to the computer and then the Ethernet cable is inserted into one of the numbered port of the device and the PC’s LAN port. If your router is wireless, all you have to do is to make sure that your computer is connected to the Wi-Fi network generated by the device by simply verifying that the connection icon is present next to the clock in ‘dedicated computer system bar area.

Router-networkNext, turn your computer on, start your favorite web browser (eg Chrome, Internet Explorer or Safari) and connect to the IP address of the router by typing the latter in the address bar and then pressing the Enter button on the   keyboard.

To find the exact IP of the router in your possession try to look at the back of the device or on the side, you should find a label with the above written address. Otherwise, you can try to take a look at the router user manual in the sales package. Please note that router IP address is usually  or .

If this is not the case, and if the IP address of the router is not indicated on any label sticker on the device itself or on the user manual, do not worry, you can locate it directly from your computer.

If you are using a PC you can know the IP address to access the router control panel by typing cmd in the searchable search field by clicking the Start button   on the taskbar or in the field accessible from the top right part of the Start Screen. Then press Enter to start the program that has been automatically selected. In the window that opens at this point, type ipconfig, then press the Enter key on your PC keyboard to get the full list of addresses for your connection. You will find the router’s IP address next to the entry Default Gateway.

If you are using a Mac you can know the IP address to access the router control panel by clicking the System Preferences icon   (you can find the icon on the Dock, in the Applications folder,   or you can access it using the Launchpad) and then pressing on the Network entry. In the window that will now show you select the name of your connection, click the advanced button  …  located at the bottom right and then click on the TCP / IP tab. You will find the address to which you must be connected next to the router.

Once you have typed the correct IP, you will also be asked to enter a username and password to access the router panel. Commonly the combination to use is admin / admin or admin / password but in some cases you must use other settings that can be found in the router’s user manual. If you encounter special difficulties at this stage, try following the directions in my tutorial on finding the modem and router password.

Once you have entered the router control panel, the initial configuration of the device should start automatically. But keep in mind that for some router models this does not happen. If the automatic configuration procedure does not start, try to locate the button, such as Configure, Setup, or Wizard, and click on it.

At this point, the process of router setup is usually very simple. Simply set up a new password for access to it (if required) and set all the parameters for your connection.

In most cases, the procedure for configuring the router is able to automatically locate the parameters needed to surf the Internet using the connectivity service made available by your telephone operator. If so, do not proceed by going to select PPPoe / LLC or PPPoA / VC-Mux as connection type, 8 and 35 as VPI and VCI values   and – only if necessary – enter username and password for connection to the connection.

If at the end of the wizard your Router Setup would not connect properly to the Internet (remember that sometimes it takes several minutes to turn all green lights on), try switching from  PPPoe/ LLC  to  PPPoA / VC-Mux  (or vice versa) or contact at 0557503724 your provider to find out which exact parameters are to be included in the router.

In the modern Wi-Fi router, you also need to configure the wireless security key. In order to prevent unauthorized third parties from happening to your Wi-Fi network and making use of the internet connection without your knowledge, I suggest you use a   very long WPA2 / AES key and that it does not make any sense. If you want to go into the topic, I suggest you consult my guide on how to put wireless network password. For more info call @ 0557503724.

At this point I would say that you can feel satisfied: you have finally completed all the procedure by which to configure a Router Setup, congratulations! Now you can finally try to surf the net using your Internet connection. To verify that everything went right in the way that the router configuration panel is indicated that an Internet connection has been established and that the lights on are on green and yellow (the color may vary depending on the brand and router model used).

Next, try typing  in your preferred browser’s address bar. If everything is spun in the right direction, my site will be loaded correctly to confirm that the procedure by which to configure a router has actually succeeded.

Once you have completed the basic configuration procedure for your router and then established an Internet connection, you can go to step two with slightly more advanced settings. Do not worry. Nothing complicated.

Before I told you that commonly access router configuration panels using the admin / admin combination, this is a good reason to change this setting and use custom authentication data.

To do this, go to the Security, Maintenance, or Administration section of the router, find the form to change user name and password to access the device panel (not to be confused with your Wi-Fi password, which is another thing), fill in the data with unrecognizable data and click on the button to save the settings. Very easy. For more details, you can visit my website on how to change the password to the modem through which I’ve been explaining you by thread and sign how to do it.

Other settings that need to be changed frequently in routers are those related to firewalls and the ports to open in the latter to use eMule, uTorrent and other P2P programs. It seems a complicated thing, but in this case I assure you that it takes very little.

For example, if you use a router Netgear with interface Genie can change the firewall settings simply by a walk in the section Advanced, clicking on the item Protection placed on the left side, then pressing of Firewall rules and clicking on the + Add to use one of the presets available, or the + Add Custom Service button, to set up a new custom service first. For more information, see also my guide on how to open the router ports.

After making any changes to the case, do not forget to click the Apply, Save or Save Changes button to save the new settings in the router control panel. After confirming the application of the changes made in some cases, the router may restart automatically.

Finally, tell us that you can view the statistics for your connection at any time in the Status section of the router control panel and you can reset the device by pressing the tip of a pen or with a clip on the button back or on the side of it and keep holding it for about ten seconds, practically until you see the router lights turn off and / or start blinking.
